Schieffer in, Van de Putte out; Watson maybe
      Tom Schieffer dodged one bullet, but now another may be headed his way. Schieffer announced he will indeed seek the Democratic nomination for governor, kicking off a two-week statewide announcement tour June 24 with press conferences in Fort Worth, Houston and Austin. He criticized both Republican Gov. Rick Perry, and his challenger in next year’s GOP primary, U. S. Sen. Kay Bailey Hutchison.

I’d rather be hot in Port Aransas
      If you think it’s hot here, try San Antonio. Or Austin. Or Houston. Or Dallas. For that matter, Texas, USA. We ventured a few miles inland two weeks ago to attend a wedding and just about suffocated. Last weekend we visited The Daughter in San Antonio and baked. I say “we.” I mean “me.” Murray’s comment is, “Kinda nice, huh?” He makes my derriere ache.

LETTERS TO THE EDITOR
      Price hike unjustified The recent 15 percent increase in natural gas prices by the City of Port Aransas utilities appears out of line. The city is paying less for natural gas today than they were in 2006, when prices were last raised. In spite of the generally increasing costs for energy, natural gas prices are plummeting. The call for an increase by the city, in the face of falling prices, can’t be justified. It would seem more appropriate for the city to lock in long-term contracts for the benefit of its customers, than to raise prices.
