Rick Perry flexes muscle as governor
      Rick Perry has gotten quite comfortable as governor of Texas, even when the temporarily vacant mansion burns, and he breaks his collarbone on a mountain biking ride. He likes appointing members of every board and commission. After eight-plus years in office, all the governing boards are his appointees – a considerable number of them Perry political campaign donors. He fills judicial vacancies. Five of the nine members of the Texas Supreme Court are Perry appointees, though all five were subsequently elected.

Narrow your view: Read The Daily Me
      After reading a piece by a syndicated columnist in one of the daily newspapers a couple of months ago, I was struck by his interpretation of the Internet as it relates to individuals. He called it “The Daily Me.” When you go on the Internet, you don’t look up subjects you are not interested in or that you don’t even know exist. No. It’s all about you. Ergo, “The Daily Me.” If the Internet is one’s only news source, the news he or she will seek out is only that which one chooses to know.

Perry signs windstorm bill as vetoes end
      Tuesday, June 23, was a proud day for the Coastal Bend as Gov.Rick Perry was welcomed in Corpus Christi where he took part in a bill signing ceremony for H.B. 4409, “The Windstorm Bill”. A great crowd turned out for a noontime event at the Port of Corpus Christi where the governor’s signature provided the final touch to a piece of legislation that was years in the making. The event had originally been scheduled for June 10, but a bicycle fall and a broken collarbone sidelined the governor temporarily.

LETTERS TO THE EDITOR
      Good move I want to commend the city council for passing the lighting ordinance as amended. The benefits to the citizens and visitors of Port Aransas will be far reaching by the positive action of city council. By replacing existing street, pier and parking lot lights with full cut-off (shielded) light fixtures, light is directed to where it is needed- on the ground and not upwards and outwards. By lighting only the areas that need light, there is tremendous cost savings to the city.
