Councilwoman felt threatened by mayor’s outburst

An angry Port Aransas Mayor Claude Brown loudly accused city council member Glenda Balentine of personal attacks during a council meeting on Thursday, June 18. Brown’s remarks came after Balentine told the mayor he was “out of line” with his comments that city staff recently had conducted what Brown termed as a “lax” goals meeting for the council. Hometown talent will perform for an evening of fun and relief from the summer heat on Saturday. The Port Aransas Community Theater will present a musical variety show on Saturday, June 27, at 7:30 p.m. A few regular PACT players, including Betty Crawford, Jack Dreessen, Phyllis Layne, Ginny Shaw and David Beane will perform musical numbers, and newcomer Ty Morris will sing and play guitar. Amy Beck of Port Aransas brought Too Big to the pet parade at the Community Park on Tuesday, June 16. Too Big, who belongs to Beck’s neighbor, Johnie Whisman, won awards for the tallest pet and for the most colorful. The pet parade was one of the summer youth activities conducted by the City of Port Aransas Parks and Recreation Department. More...

A memorial service is pending for former Port Aransas resident Tom Lambertson. Lambertson, who was a member of the Port Aransas Boatmen, Inc. and Boatman of the Year in 1990, died Tuesday, June 23, 2009. He was 82. Lambertson and his wife, Francelle, moved to San Antonio a few years ago. A memorial service will be held in San Antonio at the Army Residence Community at a date to be determined.
