Capt. Hope Devlin Fishing Tournament slated for the July 4

The 13th annual Capt. Hope Devlin Fishing Tournament is all about kids.

The one-day tournament for anglers 16 years and under is on Saturday, July 4, from dawn to noon, and benefits youth of Port Aransas through scholarships and other programs.

The tournament is named in honor of Capt. Hope Devlin, who, before succumbing to breast cancer, was active in starting the Port Aransas Kiwanis Club and loved to fish. Kiwanians sponsor the tournament each year, with proceeds going to provide scholarships for Port Aransas High School graduates.

Registration will be Friday, July 3, from 5 to 6 p.m. at Roberts Point Park. Forms for early registration can be picked up at Woody’s Sports Center, 136 W. Cotter Ave., or at Coastal Creations, 620 Cut-off Road. Early registration is $15 per angler, and can be paid through the Friday registration. Tournament day, Saturday, registration will begin at 8 a.m. at the Fred Rhodes Memorial Pavilion at Roberts Point Park. Registration fee the day of the tournament is $20.

Checks for fees should be made out to the Kiwanis Club.

Weigh-in is no later than 12:30 p.m. Saturday at Roberts Point Park, and awards will be presented at 1:30 to the two top anglers in each age division. Age divisions are 0-5 years, 6-10 years and 11-16 years. First place winner in each division wins a bike.

A hot dog lunch will be provided to anglers and may be purchased by adults for $5.

For more information or for registration forms call Elvia Tamayo at 749-5814 or (361) 816-5282.
