Advanced sailing is among offerings by the Port Aransas Parks and Recreation Department. The class, for sailors age 10 and up, allows kids to practice open-water sailing skills in the Dennis Dreyer Municipal Marina. A basic or comparable certification is required to take the course.
Pictured clockwise from left are Ty Morris, Jenna Ward and Hazel Morris sailing away; assistant Harbormaster David Stroud helping Ty, Harbormaster Jeff Logue giving Hazel and Jenna tips and Elliott and Jason Morris bringing up the rear; and Hazel and Jenna rigging their sail.
Two advanced sailing courses have been held already, and if enough interest is shown, another will be held. Anyone interested may call parks and recreation at 749- 4158.
Beginner sailors can learn the art of sailing at the Port Aransas Community Park Swimming Pool by signing up for Come Sail Basic. The next class will be Tuesday through Thursday, June 23-25.
Instruction, except for the June 23-25 class, is by Harbormaster Jeff Logue.
