FISHING REPORT

The fishing is great!

If you’re not catching fish in Port

Aransas, you must not be fishing.

A huge variety of species are being

caught, including some that are unusual

for this time of year, or unusually close

inshore.

Anglers are still hooking into sailfish off

the end of the south jetty, and quite a few

billfish were reported over the weekend.

Bobby Richter of Port Aransas took

white marlin and a sailfish. All four wee

caught on ballyhoo.

Kingfish were caught just about everywhere:

The piers, the jetties, offshore, and

even in the Lydia Ann Channel.

Surf anglers reported catching big, fat

speckled trout all week.

snapper, vermilion snapper, ling, blackfin

tuna, kingfish, bonito, amberjack, grouper,

hammerhead shark and Atlantic sharpnose

shark.

Sharon Keehlisen at Woody’s Sports

Center said offshore anglers brought in

“some reall y big red sna pper f rom t he

close rigs,” as well as ling, wahoo, barracuda

and kingfish. Bay anglers caught

redfish, speckl ed trout and black drum.

A party boat caught kingfish at the end of

the south jetty, ling and bonito in the ship

channel and hooked into sailfish that threw

the bait. Deckhand Ralph Lantz said he has seen “a bunch of sailfish,’ just off the end

of the south jetty.

Beverly Stapleton at Offshore Adventures

said offshore trips brought in limits

of kingfish and red snapper, triggerfish, a

50-pound ling, vermilion and lane snapper,

Spanish mackerel, barracuda, jack crevalle

and a big hammerhead shark. Bay anglers

h ave been li mitin g out on redfis h an d

speckled trout and catching black drum,

flounder and Spanish mackerel. She said

some anglers have caught kingfish at the

end of the Lydia Ann Channel.

House said Horace Caldwell Pier anglers

are reeling in “a lot of nice speckled trout,”

s hark, po m pano, Sp a nish mackerel an d

sheepshead. Kingfish were caught at the

end of the pier.

John McNatt at Fisherman’

reported great catches of red snapper, ling,

k ingfish, vermil ion snapper and amberjack.

A 12-hour of trip brought in “A bunch

of blue runners.” North jetty anglers are

catching redfish and speckled trout.
