San Antonio folks adore Port Aransas

San Antonio residents have out-numbered visitors from other Texas cities to Port Aransas for years, although, Austin, Dallas and now Houston residents are catching up.

Still, Port Aransas rates high as a weekend destination getaway for folks in the Alamo City. The proof is in the Silver designation awarded to Port Aransas in the San Antonio Express-News Readers’ Choice Awards announced in the Friday, May 29, edition.

The Gold award went to Fredericksburg, a 45-minute jaunt from San Antonio. The Bronze went to Corpus Christi.

The Critics’ Choice award was a tie between Fredericksburg and South Padre Island.

“We were thrilled, once again, to be chosen as one of San Antonio’s favorite weekend getaways,” said Ann Bracher Vaughan, executive director of the Port Aransas Chamber of Commerce-Tourist Bureau.

“With San Antonio being our long-time top market, and hundreds of residents from there who claim ‘Port A’ as their second home, it’s no surprise to receive this choice award,” she added.

“We appreciate the fact that San Antonians continue to keep us as one of their choice picks for a quick getaway,” Vaughan said.
