On exhibit SOUTH JETTY FILE PHOTO BY DAN PARKER This photo of Port Aransan Corey Williams surfing at Horace Caldwell Pier will be one of more than 150 surfing-oriented photos going on display at the Texas Surf Museum in a new exhibit that opens on Saturday, June 6. An upcoming Texas Surf Museum exhibit will include photos of Port Aransans surfing Mustang Island waves.

The exhibit, called “Big Shots – The Work of Texas Surf Photographers,” opens to the public at 10 a.m. on Saturday, June 6, and concludes Oct. 31. The surf museum is at 309 N. Water Street, next-door to the Executive Surf Club, in downtown Corpus Christi.

The exhibit will display more than 150 surfing-oriented photos shot by a dozen photographers from Port Aransas, Galveston, Houston, Corpus Christi, South Padre Island and Harlingen.

Some of the photos show towering hurricane surf crashing at San Jose and Mustang islands.

Port Aransas surfers whose images will be in the exhibit include Morgan Faulkner, Nick Jones, Corey Williams, Carson Einkauf and Tim Smallwood.

Some of the images were captured by Port Aransas couple Dan Parker and Michelle Christenson, the curators of the surf museum. Parker is a reporter and photographer at the South Jetty. Christenson is a multi-media producer for Caller.com, the website of the Corpus Christi Caller-Times.

All of Parker’s photos at the exhibit originally appeared in the South Jetty. All of Christenson’s exhibit photos first appeared in the Caller-Times.

Among those expected at the exhibit’s opening is Californian Sam George, a former Surfer magazine editor who is one of the world’s leading experts on the sport. George will be accompanied by his wife and tandem surfing partner, Nia Peeples, a Hollywood actress who has held regular roles on television shows including “The Young and the Restless” and “Walker: Texas Ranger.”
