PASTOR’S PEN

Faith is like rain

William Campbell is pastor at First Baptist Church of Port Aransas. William Campbell is pastor at First Baptist Church of Port Aransas. I almost forgot what rain looked like.

Around my house we jokingly said it was almost like seeing your first snowfall.

It is amazing to see how God put nature in place. After the rainfall, the air was crisp and clear, the grass started to turn green (almost immediately) and my trees started looking better. It was a little too late to save my tomato plants, but my trees sure did appreciate it. Because of the rain, I will now get to watch my young guava, orange and avocado trees develop and hopefully produce like I wanted when I purchased them.

The same can be said of us believers (who have a personal relationship with Jesus Christ).

1 Corinthians 6:19-20 NIV: Do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit, who is in you, whom you have received from God? You are not your own; (20) you were bought at a price. Therefore honor God with your body.

God purchased us, not only out of love for us, but because he has plans for our development. When we trust Him in every area of our lives, it is like an inch and half of rain falling on us. It helps our development. When we show a lack of faith, our growth is stunted and a “drought” can occur.

At First Baptist Church in Port Aransas we are starting a new series called “How to Develop Your Faith.” Each Sunday we will take a few verses out of the book of James (the most practical book in the Bible) and apply it to our lives. We will discuss issues such as: How to Profit from Your Problems, How to Make Up Your Mind, How to Win Over Temptation, etc., which will help us grow in our faith. By growing in our faith, we will then grow to become more like God’s intended plan when He purchased us.

You are invited to join us as we develop our faith.
