Good Samaritan rescues boaters near north jetty

A good Samaritan boater rescued three people when their boat capsized near the north jetty on San Jose Island on Saturday, May 30, according to a Coast Guard official.

The capsizing of the approximately 20-foot boat was reported about 10 a.m., but when a Coast Guard boat arrived shortly later, the people had been picked up by another boater, said Harold Zurlo, a botswain second class at the Coast Guard station in Port Aransas. Zurlo said he had no information on the names of the boats or the people. Coast Guard records indicated no evidence of injuries, he said.

The assisting vessel towed the capsized boat to Conn Brown Harbor in Aransas Pass, Zurlo said.
