Tax appraisal appeal forum is Saturday

You don’t have to call or drive to Corpus Christi with questions about your property tax appraisals.

The county is coming to you to provide answers.

The Nueces County Appraisal District will hold a forum for Port Aransas residents on how to appeal property tax appraisals on Saturday, May 30.

The forum will be from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Port Aransas Independent School District administration building, 100 S. Station St.

Appraisal district staff will accept exemptions and protest filings at the meeting. The deadline for most protest filings is June 1, or 30 days after a Notice of Appraised Value is mailed to the property owner, whichever is later.

Appraisal district staff will speak at the forum about the property tax appraisal protest process and the timelines involved.

Among related topics to be discussed will be property tax caps, homestead rules, age, disability and disabled veterans exemptions, tax deferrals, renditions, market value appraisals, appraisal methods, the Texas Constitution, property tax codes, a state property tax study and who to call for help.

Port Aransas City Councilman Keith McMullin, a real estate broker, will make a presentation on how Realtors can help residents with tax appraisals.

Speakers will take questions from the audience. In addition, appraisal district staff and real estate agents will provide one-on-one help to interested residents.
