Reception before scholarship event is slated on Friday

A reception will be held tomorrow, Friday, May 22, for representatives of businesses, civic groups and individuals who donate scholarships to Port Aransas High School seniors.

It will be at 1 p.m. in the Una Farley Library at Port Aransas High School.

The scholarship assembly will follow at 1:30 p.m. in the cafetorium, upstairs at PAHS.

Also at the assembly, the valedictorian, salutatorian and recipients of the Jerry McDonald Citizenship Award will be named.

The citizenship award is presented by the Jerry McDonald Foundation, a charitable trust founded in 1969 in remembrance of Jerry McDonald, who was killed in action in Vietnam on March 9, 1969. It was the intention of the foundation to honor his memory and encourage and recognize good citizenship, patriotic ideals, high moral, personal and religious standards of conduct in the youth of Port Aransas. A boy and girl who exemplify these traits are selected each year from the three PAISD campuses.
