Cops will pack 'heat' Saturday
So many chilis, and just enough time to taste them all!
The fourth annual Coastal Bend Law Enforcement Chili Cook-off will be held Saturday, May 9, at Roberts Point Park. The cook-off is sponsored by the Coastal Bend Peace Officers Association.
The public is invited to taste as many as 20 award-winning chilis from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the cookoff.
Wristbands, admitting tasters to all eligible chili booths, will be sold for $5 each.
Live music will be provided by Lyrical Bynge.
The cook-off, begun in 2006, is a joint effort by area law enforcement and military personnel, and provides assistance for medical expenses not covered by insurance in case of debilitating disease or death.
All proceeds will benefit Coastal Bend Law Enforcement and Military Families in Need and the CBPOA Scholarship Fund.
Past recipients of assistance have included the families of James Saavedra, a Port of Corpus Christi police officer, and Matthew Thebeau, a Corpus Christi police officer. Both men died in the line of duty. Funds have also helped the Women's Shelter of South Texas and a Martin Middle School mentoring program.
