Dusek

A scholarship fund has been set up in honor of the late Beatrice Dusek, who died Friday, April 20, 2009. The H.G. Olsen Elementary School teachers will select a graduating senior at Port Aransas High School each year to receive the scholarship.

Contributions may be made out to the Bea Dusek Scholarship Fund and mailed to 100 S. Station St., Port Aransas, TX, 78373. For more information call Penny Slingerland, (361) 749-1205.

Dusek, 78, was born Nov. 13, 1930 in Victoria to the late Frank H. and Beatrice Vanek Dusek.

She taught elementary school for 42 years after graduating from San Marcos Teachers College. She began her career at Stubbs School, and Kemper City School. She taught in Port Aransas for 16 years before retiring in 1993.

She enjoyed arts and crafts, including ceramics. She also loved to sew, especially Christmas stockings. Each year she made a stocking for her students. She also made special ones for her nieces and nephews and their children.

Dusek is survived by her sisters; Annie M. (Vance) Cribb of Victoria, Helen Walker of Victoria and Frances E. (Robert) Pope of Nordheim, two brothers; Frank T. (Naoko) Dusek of Schertz and James M. (Carolyn) Dusek of Victoria and many nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews and one great-great niece.

She was preceded in death by her parents and nephew Randy Walker.

Funeral services were held on Wednesday, April 15, in Victoria. Burial followed at Shillerville Cemetery.
