Port Aransas surfer Corey Williams has taken second place in the stand-up paddleboard competition division of a prestigious Florida surf contest.

The Ron Jon Easter Surfing Festival was held April 10-12 at Cocoa Beach. It is one of the nation's longest-running surf contests, held the past 45 years.

Contest officials allowed 16 competitors in the stand-up paddleboard division. Surfers from all over the nation competed. Mikey DeTemple of Florida took first place.

Williams also made it to the semi-fi- nals of the contest's longboard pro division. No other Port Aransans competed at the festival.

Williams, 25, has taken honors in many surf contests, but this was the first time he had competed in a stand-up paddleboard competition.

Williams surfs on a team sponsored by Board House surf shop of Port Aransas. He works as a lifeguard on the beach.
