PAHS is UIL champion

Port Aransas High School has reason to be proud.

The District 31A University Interscholastic League Spring Meet concluded on Thursday, April 2, with Port Aransas High School as district champions, earning 489 points.

Academy High School from Santa Gertrudis ISD took second place at the meet, with 236 points.

The spring meet contains three contests: cross-x debate, the academic meet, and one-act play.

Twenty-four PAHS students entered the academic portion of the meet and of those, 21 qualified for the regional competition in Brenham on April 24.

In the 12 team competitions, PAHS had nine first-place teams and two second place teams.

Individual and team results follow.

Accounting: Hannah Ferguson Johns placed third, the team placed second.

Calculator applications: Chloe Tugwell took first, Kasey Reed second and the team placed first.

Computer applications: Kasey Reed won first place and Chloe Tugwell placed fifth.

Computer science: Kasey Reed placed first, Greg Anderson second, Clark Wilson third and John Eggleston fourth.The team won first place.

Current events and issues: Mikey Cantu took fourth, Sabah Sayed sixth and the team came in second.

Editorial writing: Sarah Armanovs won first place, Chloe Tugwell third and Charlotte Lucke sixth.

Feature writing: Abby Kenigsberg took first place, Katie Voyles placed third.

Headline writing: Chloe Tugwell placed first and Charlotte Lucke placed fourth.

Informativespeaking: Claire Jones placed sixth.

Journalism: The journalism team won first place.

Literary criticism: Ashley Gant placed first, Sarah Armanovs second, Chloe Tugwell

fourth and Charlotte Lucke fifth. The team won first place.

Mathematics: Kasey Reed took first place, John Eggleston second and Kelsey Abel, fourth. The team placed first.

News writing: Katie Voyles won first place, Abby Kenigsberg fourth and Kelsey Cartwright, fifth.

Number sense: John Eggleston won first place, Kasey Reed, third and the team won first place.

Ready writing: Abby Kenigsberg took second, Kelsey Abel, third and Charlotte Lucke fourth.

Science: John Eggleston placed first in overall science and top score in the chemistry category. Kasey Reed placed second in overall science and top score in the physics category, Clark Wilson placed third in overall science and Kelsey Abel placed fourth in overall science. The team won first place in science.

Social studies: Sabah Sayed won first place, Joey Fries fourth and the team placed first.

Spelling and vocabulary: Marina Milligan took fourth place, Hazel Morris, fifth, Mac Owens, fifth, and the team won first place.
