Fighting fire

Firefighter Dusty Foley battles a fire at the Port Aransas Nature Preserve at Charlie's Pasture on Friday, April 3. The blaze consumed an estimated eight to ten acres of grass and brush, according to Scott Mack, chief of the Port Aransas Volunteer Fire Department. No injuries or damage was reported. The cause of the fire was unknown. Firefighters first fought the fire at 2:30 a.m., then had to return about 6 p.m., when hot spots rekindled. Flames at one point approached within 30 yards of a Port Aransas Community Park gazebo.
