BY HAZEL MORRIS Vote for Hazel!
Hazel Morris, a freshman at Port Aransas High School, was invited to participate in a six-week intensive summer ballet workshop with the Joffrey Ballet.
She has since been working to raise the $4,000 tuition.
She was recently named a semi-finalist in a greeting card art contest, where she could win a $5,000 scholarship, and you can help.
The public is invited to vote for the People's Choice Award Winner by going online to www.pier1.com and clicking on the link on the right side of the screen where it says "2009 Pier1/Unicef Card Contest."
All 10 of the semi-finalist's card drawings can be seen with the artist's first name, city and state underneath.
Next, click on Hazel's card to vote for it.
Voting runs through Wednesday, April 15.
Morris has been raising funds for the tuition and housing by babysitting, working, selling handmade items and through donations.
She is a member of the Corpus Christi Concert Ballet, recipient of the 2008 Jerry McDonald Citizenship Award at Brundrett Middle School, valedictorian of her eighth grade class, and served as president of the Brundrett Middle School student council last year. In addition, she attends about 10 hours of dance class each week, attends honors and advanced placement classes and is an A student at the high school. She continues her involvement in student council and theater arts.
