'Slam' Poetry competition set for Friday

Get your rhyme on.

Everyone is invited to enjoy the Sand Slam poetry competition tomorrow, Friday, March 27, at The Gaff, 323 Beach St.

Join the competition or just sit back and be entertained.

Presenting poets must sign up by 7:30 p.m., and the performance starts at 8 p.m.

Competing poets must bring at least three selections of their own writing, as three rounds are held before declaring a winner.

The evening will begin with an open microphone, available for poetry not original to the presenter.

Performances are limited to three minutes.

The monthly event is kept familyfriendly as teens are encouraged to attend and compete.

Musical accompaniment is allowed.

The slam is free, but donations are accepted to help with expenses and prize money.

The slams, held by the City of Port Aransas Parks and Recreation Department on the fourth Friday of each month, are open to the public.
