The deadline to file for election in the upcoming Port Aransas City Council race ended on Monday, March 9, with no new candidates signing up or filing paperwork.

Eleece Calvert will oppose Place 1 City Council incumbent Keith Donley in the council election on Saturday, May 9.

Place 5 City Councilman Rick Pratt is campaigning unopposed for re-election to his council seat.

Councilman Charles Bujan is seeking re-election, also unopposed, to his Place 3 council seat.

City council members may serve three consecutive two-year terms before term limits rotate them out of office.

Candidates' Night is a voter education forum sponsored by the South Jetty for candidates in contested races.

Candidates' Night will be Thursday, April 30, in the city council chamber at city hall and will be broadcast on the public access channel.

Candidates must confirm their participation no later than Thursday, April 16, to be included in the forum. Call the South Jetty at 749-5131 or e-mail southjetty@centurytel.net to confirm. Candidates who do not confirm by the deadline will not be allowed to participate.
