Revel in parade on Fat Tuesday
Get ready to party and parade on Fat Tuesday, Feb. 24.
The annual Mardi Gras parade sponsored by the Port Aransas Leisure Society (PALS) will leave at 5 p.m. from The Gaff parking lot, 323 Beach St. Paraders are invited to walk or take the ride of their choice.
The route will start at The Gaff, wind through the flats and back to the Crazy Cajun.
From The Gaff, paraders will travel west on Beach Street to Alister Street through the light to Trout Street turn south on Tarpon Street and back to Cotter, left on Cotter to Station Street where it will turn right (south) and end at the Crazy Cajun restaurant on the corner of Station and Beach streets. From there, revelers will "party on," according to parade organizer Janet Calvert.
Paraders should bring their own beads, Calvert said.
Spectators should look for the newly-formed Port Aransas chapter of Parrot Heads (fans of entertainer Jimmy Buffett), the Island Trash Red Hat Society, the Romeos and a motorcycle brigade from the Moore-McDonald VFW Post 8967.
"The more, the merrier," Calvert said.
Spectators are encouraged to line the route and cheer on the parade.
