FISHING REPORT

Kingfish, amberjack, snapper catches of week

Before the winds picked up, a few boats got offshore this week, bringing in limits of kingfish, some amberjack, vermilion, red and lane snapper, as well as shark.

Bays are still yielding lots of redfish, black drum, and sheepshead. Some trout have been reeled in off the jetties.

Tracy Ingalls at Barnacle Bill's Pier House said anglers on Horace Caldwell Pier have been catching whiting, lots of black drum, croaker, redfish and some pompano.

John McNatt at Fisherman's Wharf reported kingfish and vermillion snapper caught on offshore trips, and speckled trout, black drum, redfish and sheepshead at the jetties.

John Dunn at Dolphin Dock said a 12-hour state-water trip brought in 40 red snapper. Another trip had a haul of amberjack, kingfish, mako and other sharks.

Scott Garrison at Deep Sea Headquarters said offshore trips are bringing in kingfish, vermillion snapper and Atlantic sharpnose shark.

Sharon Keehlisen at Woody's Sports Center said bay guides have reported whiting and big sand trout in the ship channel, black drum and redfish in the flats and at Piper Channel, sheepshead off the south jetty and speckled trout at the end of the south jetty on live shrimp. A few pompano have been caught in the surf as well, Keehlisen said.

According to Jeff Heimann at

Offshore Adventures, offshore catches included kingfish, shark, lane snapper and vermillion snapper and the South Bay area has been yielding limits of redfish and some black drum.
