Margaret Price has filed for re-election to Place 1 on the Port Aransas Independent School District Board of Trustees.

At press time, no one else had filed for either of the two trustees' spots up that are for grabs, although incumbent Ann Appling has said she intends to file for re-election to Place 7.

No one else has stated public intentions of running for school board.

Price filed on Monday, Feb. 9 - the first day of the filing period, which ends on March 9. The election is May 9.

Trustees serve three-year terms and receive no pay. There is no limit on the number of terms a school board member may serve.

STATEMENTS

Candidates are invited to submit statements listing their qualifications and reasons for seeking office to the South Jetty. The statements will be published, with photos of the candidates, at no charge, in each edition of the newspaper through the March 12 edition.

Candidates who submit statements after the final deadline may have their statements published at regular advertising rates.

Statements must be submitted before noon each Tuesday through March 10, to be published in the following Thursday's edition. They should be limited to 600 words and must be typewritten in upper and lower case. Handwritten statements and those written in all capital letters will not be accepted.

Statements may be e-mailed, with "Candidate Statement" written in the subject line, to southjetty@centurytel. net, or mailed to P.O. Box 1117, Port Aransas, TX 78373.

Candidates may submit photos of themselves or have a photo taken by prior arrangement at the South Jetty office, 141 W. Cotter St. Photos emailed, to the address mentioned previously, should be attached as jpeg files.

CANDIDATES' NIGHT

Candidates' night is a voter education forum sponsored by the South Jetty for candidates in contested races.

The forum will be Thursday, April 30, in the city council chamber at city hall. The event will be broadcast on the public access channel.

Candidates must confirm their participation no later than Thursday, April 16, to be included in the forum. Call the South Jetty or e-mail southjetty@centurytel.net to confirm.

Candidates who do not confirm by the deadline will not be allowed to participate.
