Price follows through on plan to file for re-election

      Margaret Price has filed for re-election to Place 1 on the Port Aransas Independent School District Board of Trustees. At press time, no one else had filed for either of the two trustees' spots up that are for grabs, although incumbent Ann Appling has said she intends to file for re-election to Place 7.

Twister time
      Getting twisted up in a game of Twister are students Reba Armanovs, Rebeccah McCall, Ellen Powers and Sarah Armanovs during a pep rally at Port Aransas High School on Friday, Jan. 30. The twist on this Twister game: The colored dots were made of gooey foodstuffs like chocolate syrup. The pep rally was held to raise school spirit for that night's homecoming basketball games.

      As a teacher, I know that student motivation is the foundation to effective learning. In my Spanish classes, I like to create an environment where students feel comfortable enough to take chances. I like to try to promote a student desire to be in my classroom and attentive to the lessons that are presented.

Pate aces HPU president's list
      Sarah Elise Pate, a 2008 graduate of Port Aransas High School, has been included in the president's list for the fall semester at Howard Payne University in Brownwood. She earned a 4.0 grade point average for the semester. Pate is the daughter of James and Marnie Pate of Port Aransas and Henry and Mona Barnes of Somerset.

      Let's carb up and help out. A group of Brundrett Middle School students will hold a spaghetti dinner on Monday, Feb. 16, to raise money for an educational trip to Washington D.C. this summer. The dinner will be from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the H.G. Olsen Elementary School cafeteria.
