FISHING REPORT
Sheepshead, black drum and redfish are plentiful
      It was too windy again all week for most to venture offshore, but the sheepshead, black drum and redfish are all pretty hot in the bays, and the bait is plentiful. According to MaryAnn Heimann at Offshore Adventures, the whole South Bay area has been yielding limits of redfish and some black drum.

Reeling in another
      Merle Souders of Tecumseh, Okla., reels in a sheepshead while fishing from the south jetty on Saturday, Feb. 7. Souders threw the fish back because it was too small, but he already had two keepers and a 29-inch black drum on his stringer.

Fishing fellowship
      This group of Winter Texans fished a 12-hour trip aboard the Iced Down with Capt. Nate Forbes and mate Miles Stamper out of Deep Sea Headquarters on Saturday, Jan. 31. They brought in this great catch of wahoo, amberjack and ling. Dan Craw, from left, Richard Cornelison, Art Diedrich, John Buley and Fuzzy Schmid are regular anglers with Forbes.

      Mark Allen of Austin caught this big drum off the south jetty, close to the University of Texas Marine Science Institute on Saturday, Feb. 7.

Worth the trip
      Eugene Blake of Winfield, Kans., caught this 39-inch, 20-pound redfish using ghost shrimp off the north jetty in a boat on Thursday, Jan. 29. Redfish this size require trophy tags or must be released.

      These three nice trout and several redfish were caught by Capt. Peter Gainey of Port Aransas. He fished with Capt. Peter Young on Wednesday, Feb. 4.
