Lady Marlins beat Yorktown, 51-38

      The Lady Marlins tamed the Wildcats. The Port Aransas girls bested their Yorktown High School opponents, 51-38, in a game played at Doyle Marek Gym on Friday, Jan. 16. "I thought we did a much better job in our half-court defense and rebounding the ball," said Stephanie Foerster, coach of the Lady Marlins.

      The Port Aransas High School Lady Marlins JV suffered a mauling from the Yorktown Lady Wildcats. The Lady Marlins fell to their opponents, 15-29, in a home game on Friday, Jan. 16. The Port Aransas girls kept up with the Lady Wildcats at first, ending the first quarter with the score at 5-5.

Seventh-grade Lady Marlins take second place at tourney

      The seventh-grade Lady Marlins took second place in their grade-level of the Brundrett Middle School tournament on Saturday, Jan. 17. The Lady Marlins fell to Incarnate Word Academy, 18-40, in the first round, but bounced back, besting Skidmore-Tynan, 23-19, in the second and final round.

      The seventh-grade Lady Marlins lost to their Pettus opponents, 16-32, in a Jan. 15 road game. The Lady Marlins fell behind early in the game, then outscored the Pettus girls, 11-6, in the fourth quarter.

Marlin boys defeat Pettus
      The seventh- and eighth-grade Marlin boys beat their Pettus counterparts in games played on Thursday, Jan. 15. The seventh graders won, 45-20, and the eighth-graders came out on top, 40-36. Seventh-grade scorers: Jake Roberts, 12; Blake Goodwin, 11; Randy Borden, six; Christian Johnson, six; Christopher Wright, four; Skyler Fusso, four; and Nick Maxham, two.

      Shane Johnson, 12, of Port Aransas, shot his first buck, a 10-point, in December. He was hunting on the ranch of Glenn Martin, also of Port Aransas. Johnson is the son of Randy and Tonya Clay.
