A survey about the city's garbage and brush collection station hours that is posted at www.portasouthjetty.com will continue to exist on the Web site through Wednesday, Jan. 21, to allow Port Aransas residents to vote whether they would use the facility on Sundays or Mondays.

Port Aransas formerly operated the landfill from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. seven days a week, but cut back to 8 a.m. to noon and from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. five days a week to allow the landfill operator to leave the area for a lunch break.

The change also was aimed at relieving the city's employee roster to allow more work to be done on the beach or on other city projects.

The survey reads "Would you utilize the City of Port Aransas Collection Station on Sunday or Monday? The station is currently open Tuesday through Saturday. 'Yes,' and then 'No.'

The survey was posted on the Web site on Wednesday, Jan. 7.

No subscription to the online edition is required for participation in the survey. A person may only vote once.

In addtion to voting, visitors to the site may check the number of viewers voting in the poll and see the percentage voting 'yes' and 'no.' The poll also provides an opportunity to submit comments.

At 1 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 14, the count was 87 'yes' votes and 28 'no' votes.
