Twelve players took advantage of a break in the morning fog to compete in the monthly round robin tennis tournament on Saturday, Jan. 3.

Matches were the best of four games and winners were determined by the most number of games won. Players ranged in age from 12 to 70-something. The tournament is technically for adults only, but when a 12-year-old ranked in the top 100 in his division of the Texas Section of the United States Tennis Association, exceptions are made.

In first place with 18 games won was the team of Ben Hoffman of Port Aransas and College Park, Md., and Dock Moser of Rushville, Ind.

Tied for second place with 12 games won were the teams of Galen Faulconer of Tyler and Port Aransas and Norm Doherty of Saginaw, Mich., and Andrew Laycock, 12, of Austin and Port Aransas who carried his 50-something-year-old partner, Mary Judson of Port Aransas.

The doubles tournaments, held on the first Saturday of the month, are sponsored by the loosely organized Port Aransas Tennis Association. The next tournament will be Feb. 7, and on Feb. 21-22, the Bill Morgan Winter Old-Lympics for partners whose ages add up to 100 or more, will be held.
