Art center offering workshops
Stave off the post-Christmas blues with one of several workshops offered by the Art Center for the Islands.
Pre-registration and prepayment are required for some classes, and supply lists are available at the front desk at the art center.
A workshop in hand-built and wheel-thrown pottery with Bill Hildebrand will be held on Mondays from Jan. 5 through March 2, from 6 to 9 p.m. Cost is $320 for members and $350 for non-members. Half of the fee must be pre-paid by tomorrow, Friday, Jan. 2, at 5 p.m.
A jewelry workshop, "Design and Redesign," will be conducted by Sue McClurg on Monday, Jan. 12, from 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Bring broken or out-of-style jewelry, loose beads, etc. Prepay by Monday, Jan. 5.
A three-day oil painting workshop with Gloria Mangiameli will be on Friday through Sunday, Jan. 16-18, from 9:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Cost is $120 for three days or $50 per day, to be prepaid by Friday, Jan. 9. Mangiameli will teach oil on canvas techniques using a pallet knife, bristle brush, sable brush, balance and composition, line and values.
Judith DeShong Hall will teach "Easy Coil Baskets" on Mondays, Jan. 19 and 26, from 1 to 3 p.m. Prepay $45 for both classes by Monday, Jan. 12. Use various twines and yarns to create baskets using the coil method.
All classes and workshops will be held at the Art Center, 323 N. Alister St.
