The Mercer house was moved to the grounds of the refurbished and landscaped Community Center, and is in the process of being transformed into a historic museum.

After 16 years of work, the Wetlands Education Center opened on the grounds of The University of Texas Marine Science Institute.

The much-anticipated Newport Dunes Golf Club, featuring an Arnold Palmer Signature links golf course, opened in September.

Wakes from passing ships in January and March knocked out the fishing pier at Charlie's Pasture.

Scott Burroughs was selected by the city council as the next Port Aransas police chief. He goes to work Jan. 5.

Sharon Doughty was the lone finalist named for the superintendent's job at PAISD. She'll go to work Jan. 12.
