Ominous cloud
Bill and Mary Ann Hollingshead of San Antonio saw this ominous and unusual cloud Sunday evening as they were parked near the south jetty. Mary Ann Hollingshead said the cloud was accompanied by a wind 'so intense it was almost like a desert sandstorm.' National Weather Service Meteorologist Amanda Fanning in Corpus Christi said the cloud is called a 'shelf cloud,' and represented the boundary where clouds are folding together. A special marine warning was issued shortly after the photo was taken, Fanning said.
