Bill Atkins is the Port Aransas Independent School District's new maintenance director.
Atkins, 50, took the helm this month, succeeding John Dreiling, who retired at the end of the 2007-08 school year.
"I feel very honored to be a part of the Port Aransas Independent School District," Atkins said. "With my years of maintenance experience, I feel I basically can utilize my skills and ability to further the (positive) direction that Mr. Dreiling put the school on the path of when he first arrived 12 years ago."
Atkins has worked for nearly two years as a skilled maintenance employee at PAISD. Previously, he was a broadband technician with Charter Communications and a maintenance worker with the Aransas County Independent School District.
In his new position, Atkins supervises 13 employees throughout PAISD, including maintenance workers and custodians. He also is responsible for supervising maintenance and use of the district's four buses and two Chevrolet Suburbans.
Atkins, who lives in Rockport, is married to Debra Atkins. They have a son, Spencer Atkins, 21, a maintenance worker at the Aransas County Independent School District.
