Swim team faces more competition

The Port Aransas Swim Team (PAST) began a successful swim season with an increase in the number of swimmers. With more than 30 members, it is the largest team since its inception in 1999.

The team competes in the Corpus Christi Summer League and, due to the increase in team members, has been moved up to a different division with more competitive teams.

PAST competed against Odem Swim Team in Port Aransas on Saturday, June 14. They swam away with a win of 189 points versus Odem's 139.

Thirty two swimmers competed for the team, including newcomers Kai Kidd and Michael May swimming in the 6 and under division.

Results for Saturday's meet follow.

6 and under division

(Michael May and Kai Kid)

May - first in 25 freestyle, 35.99, and 25 backstroke, 42.54.

Kidd - second in 25 freestyle, 57.46, and 25 back, 1:24.06.

8 and under division girls

(Elena Crawford, Dorian Garcia, Allison Hille, Hattie Longancker, Hannah May and Mary-Katherine Scott)

The 100 free relay team won (2:13.34) with swimmers Hannah May, Elena Crawford, Allison Hille and Mary- Katherine Scott.

Hille- first in 25 back, 30.30, and 25 free, 26.0.

May- first in 50 free, 1:07.66.

Scott- first in 25 breast, 47.27, and second in 50 free, 1:12.31.

Garcia- second in 50 free (swimming in 10 and under division), 1:01.63, and 25 fly, 42.24.

Longanecker- second in 25 back, 37.34.

8 and under division boys

(Ryan Brown, Zachary Brown, Logan Kreutziger and Cas Ward)

The 100 free relay team won with a time of 2:10.91.

Kreutziger - first in 25 breast ,33.31, and third in 50 free, 1:10.90.

Z. Brown- second in 50 free, 57.62, and third in 25 back, 32.91.

Ward- third in 25 free, 31.0

R. Brown- third in 25 back, 32.91.

10 and under division girls

(Leila Brinkman, Lauren Hernandez and Charli Jo Meek)

The 100 free relay team won with the help of D. Garcia, 1:54.56.

Hernandez- first in 25 back, 30.85, and 25 breast ,29.87.

Meek- first in 25, 24.76, and 50 free, 56.50.

Brinkman- second in 25 free, 27.10, and 25 back, 34.71.

10 and under division boys

(Cole Longanecker, Miles May, Samuel May and Wyatt Scott)

The 100 free relay team won with a time of 1:33.80.

M. May- first in 25 free ,18.80, and 25 fly, 25.53.

Longanecker- first in 25 breast, 30.28, and second in 100 Individual Medley(I.M.), 2:07.36.

S. May- second in 25 and 50 free, 27.90 and 55.56.

Scott- second in 50 free, 49.38, third in 100 I.M., 2:19.53.

When swimmers reach age 11 they must compete in longer events.

Girls 11 and 12 division

(Ryanna Garcia, Carlie Munoz, Haley Scott and Jenna Ward)

The 200 free relay placed second 3:08.19.

Ward- first in 50 fly, 41.19, and 100 I.M., 1:35.40.

Garcia- first in 50 breast, 1:22.90.

Scott- second in 50 back, 55.0, and 100 free, 1:37.97.

Munoz- third in 50 free, 52.14.

Boys 11 and 12 division

(Payne Kloc-Edwards, Shane Johnson, Jason Morris, Tirey Morris and Elliott Morris)

The 200 free relay won with a time of 3:17.06.

J. Morris- first in 100 free, 1:39.87.

E. Morris- second in 50 back, 59.22, and 50 free, 43.84.

Kloc-Edwards- second in 50 breast, 1:21.80.

T. Morris- third in 50 free, 50.59.

Johnson- third in 100 free, 1:50.46.

Girls 13 and 14 division:

Hazel Morris- first in 50 back, 47.57, 100 I.M. ,1:57.81, and 50 free, 39.50.

Boys 13 and 14 division

(Blue Shodrok and Corban Marcantel)

Shodrok- first in 50 back, 44.00 ,and 50 free, 38.53.

Marcantel- first in 100 I.M., 1:53.66, and second in 50 and 100 free, 39.69 and 1:33.60.

Swimming for the team since 1999 is 18-year-old Stephanie Megan Jones. Jones placed first in 100 free, 1:21.25, 50 fly, 44.28, and 100 I.M. , 1:33.00.

The next meet is Saturday, June 21, against Flour Bluff in Flour Bluff.
