D'Herde places in go-kart race

Seven-year-old Michael D'Herde of Port Aransas took second place in a go-kart race at the Motor Sports Ranch (MSR) track in Houston on Sunday, June 8.

Michael regularly competes around the state in the cadet class of go-karts in races governed by the TAG USA, a racing organization. He takes part in a division reserved for children 7 to 11 years old.

Michael had the fastest single lap time, 55.1 seconds, of any of the six racers in the race. Each lap was ninetenths of a mile long. His average lap speed was 58 mph, and he reached speeds of more than 65 mph.

The son of Randy and Mandie D'Herde, Michael is hoping to win the Southwest Regional Cup Series. A racer can win the series by accumulating points for placing highly in races that are part of the series. The season ends in September.
