This is not good-bye, Cactus

[Editor's note: Cactus, you've given us a great ride, and we'll look forward to an occasional "road trip" with you as you continue your journey.]
Well, I am going to quit writing this column every week.

Enuff.

Time to slow down. Time for more Port Aransas'ing. Family time. Friend time. Time to try and summarize these past 85 years. Time to attend book signings for my soon-to-be released book "My Sandtrap or Yours."

Time for the new book I am writing about the old times.

Time for more fishing! Peg and I love Port Aransas. My parents were Galveston people, but at the age of nine I was introduced to Port Aransas. The thrill began … and is still there! We have our place in Port Aransas and we will use it more now.

I have written for the newspapers of Dallas, Fort Worth, Houston, Austin … but the South Jetty is my favorite. I know of no other newspaper from a base as small as the South Jetty to be of such quality.

Peggy and I love our Mary and Murray. Murray, be nice to Mary. Mary, be nice to Murray. All you folks at the South Jetty, keep on printing the best!

I thank you for the ride.

Can I slip in a column or two on occasion from an ancient pencil … that is, if I can find it?
