FISHING REPORT
Fishing excellent all week

By all accounts, fishing was great this week in Port Aransas. The opening of snapper season on Sunday, June 1, was hailed by catches of limits offshore. A good variety of species was reported as well as increasing numbers.

Another sailfish was caught and released on the Miss Lainieous, bringing the total to at least three so far this season.

According to Sandy Martin at

Dolphin Dock, "All in all, fishing has been great." Offshore trips brought in dorado, amberjack, snapper, shark, barracuda, triggerfish, spadefish and kingfish. The bays have yielded big gafftop and a stingray this week.

Deep Sea Headquarters' boats brought in limits of snapper, lots of ling, kingfish and shark, according to Dan Hurd. Redfish and big speckled trout are still in the bays.

Offshore Adventures reported limits of snapper and a 120-pound hammerhead shark caught. Bay guides are catching redfish and speckled trout, according to Peggy Sexton.

Ken Reffner at Woody's Sports Center said offshore anglers brought in lots of red snapper, ling and kingfish. Redfish, gafftop and sand trout are being caught in the bays.

Bill Fintel from Barnacle Bill's Pier House on Horace Caldwell Pier said, "People that couldn't catch a cold are catching fish." He reported catches of blacktip, spinner and hammerhead shark, bull reds, whiting, black drum, sheepshead, trout, snook and even a flounder.

John McNatt of Fisherman's Wharf reports limits of snapper and lots of kingfish, shark and ling being caught offshore. Bay guides are still landing redfish.
