Kingfish abound offshore, season's first sailfish caught

While redfish and trout still reign in the bays, kingfish rule the offshore domain this week. Almost every boat house reported excellent catches of kingfish. Two swordfish were brought into Fisherman's Wharf to add some variety. The first sailfish of the season was brought in to Virginia's on the Bay Marina.

Cassidy Preis caught the sailfish aboard The Blues Brothers, with the Preis and Richter crew. The fish was caught about 60 miles offshore in 150 fathoms.

Bill Fintel from Barnacle Bill's Pier House on Horace Caldwell Pier reported catches of shark, redfish, trout, black drum and sheepshead.

Wharf reports vermilion snapper, ling, limits of kingfish and two swordfish caught offshore. Bay guides are still reeling in redfish and speckled trout.

According to Sandy Martin at Dolphin Dock, the 10-hour trip brought in big ling, vermilion snapper, barracuda and kingfish. The bays have yielded big gafftop and whiting.

Deep Sea Headquarters' boats brought in vermilion snapper, state water red snapper, kingfish and ling, according to Bethany Holden. Redfish and speckled trout are still in the bays.

Offshore Adventures reported shark, grouper, amberjack, ling and limits of kingfish caught. Bay guides reported limits of redfish and big speckled trout, according to Peggy Sexton.

Redfish and speckled trout are being caught by bay guides, according to Gwen Montgomery out of Woody's Sports Center. Offshore anglers brought in lots of vermilion snapper and shark, some state water snapper and kingfish.
