Government, most banks shut for Memorial holiday

Retailers will be open to welcome Memorial Day visitors, but government offices and most banking institutions in Port Aransas will take the day off on Monday, May 26.

While trash collection schedules will not be interrupted by the holiday that heralds the opening of the summer tourist season, city hall will be closed. Law enforcement and emergency services will be on the job throughout the holiday weekend.

Students and teachers in the Port Aransas Independent School district will enjoy their last holiday before classes are dismissed for the summer.

The Nueces County Water Control and Improvement District No. 4 office also will close for the holiday.

American Bank's drive through window will be open from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Monday, although the lobby will be closed for the day.

ValueBank Texas and Prosperity Bank will both close for the holiday.

The South Jetty newspaper office will be closed Monday, although the usual deadlines for news and advertising will be observed. Deadline for letters to the editor will be 8 a.m. Monday instead of 10 a.m. Letters may be e-mailed to southjetty@centurytel.net or put in the mail slot on the front door. See the Opinion page for guidelines and requirements on letters to the editor.

Deadline for news and advertising will be noon Tuesday.
