Seven are hurt in two wrecks

Seven people were hospitalized as the result of two separate vehicle accidents that happened on State Hwy. 361 on Saturday, May 10, and Monday, May 12.

Police reports show that at 5:10 p.m. a southbound 2005 Dodge pickup truck driven by Aubrie Grant, 22, of Houston, attempted to make a U-turn in the 5400 block of State Hwy. 361. Grant apparently failed to see a 2000 Isuzu Trooper following her. The Trooper clipped the pickup, causing it to roll over and end on its top. Grant was taken to a Corpus Christi hospital. Passengers Lindsey Pope, 21, Grant Moore, 23 and Ryan Moore, 2, were not injured. Driver and passengers were all wearing seat belts and the child was in a car seat, police said.

The driver of the Isuzu, Michael Ortiz, 18, of San Antonio, was also taken to a hospital, along with passengers Annette McDonald, 17, Alexis Rodriguez, 18, Jeffrey Suarez, 18 and Katrina Funtanilla, 16, all of San Antonio.

No charges have been filed in that accident. Officers said none of the injuries appeared to be life-threatening.

At 10:46 p.m. on Monday, May 10, Candice Burke, 20, of Aransas Pass, was northbound on State Hwy. 361 on Harbor Island when her 1999 Chrysler Sebring hit a utility pole, knocking it down. Burke, who was not wearing a seat belt, hit her head on the windshield and could not tell investigators what she was doing on the highway or how her car hit the pole.

She was taken to a Corpus Christi hospital with head injuries.
