Songwriters showcase their stuff Monday in Tarpon Inn courtyard
Take original music in an historic courtyard under the stars, add a blanket and cooler, throw in a warm spring breeze, and it might be paradise. Or it might be the 25th annual Songwriter's Showcase. The outdoor concert will be in the Tarpon Inn Courtyard, 200 E. Cotter, on Monday, May 19. Music starts at 7 p.m.
The showcase gate fee of $5 will benefit The Art Center for the Islands.
Musicians will include Mike Williams, Freddie McClain, Larry Joe Taylor, Preecher and Jacob Williams, Guy LeRoux, Mark Wilks, Hamp Brockman, Janet O'Connor, Brad Brown, Fred Jarmon, Ruben Limas, Dana Pope and the Spring Heeled Jacks Jass Band: Nathan Dunton, Josh Morrow and Ian Henkel.
The showcase was originated by musician Jesse Bishop Gay, formerly of Port Aransas. Originally he always donated the funds collected from the gate fee to various non-profit organizations. He eventually committed to donating every year's fees to the art center. Gay and his wife, Susan, moved to Costa Rica, where he started another Songwriter's Showcase.
Preecher Williams has continued the showcase.
