Schools schedule ceremonies to recognize, award students BY DAN PARKER SOUTH JETTY REPORTER
Port Aransas schools will reward some of their best students in a series of assemblies to be held soon. The public is invited to attend.
Port Aransas High School's annual academic banquet is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. on Monday, May 12, at Fins Grill & Icehouse. Students and their parents attend the banquet, which recognizes top students in each class.
A ceremony for classroom and UIL awards will be from 8 a.m. to 9 a.m. on Wednesday, May 21, at PAHS.
The school's senior awards assembly, where scholarships will be announced, will be from 1:30 p.m. to 3 p.m. on Friday, May 23. The Jerry McDonald Citizenship Award will be presented as part of the ceremonies.
PAHS graduation ceremonies will be at 8 p.m. on Friday, May 30, at the school gym.
The Marlin Athletic Booster Club's annual Athletic Banquet is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, May 13, at the Port Aransas Civic Center.
At H.G. Olsen Elementary School, administrators and teachers will conduct an awards ceremony at the school gym for students in kindergarten through second grade from 8:30 a.m. to 9:30 a.m. on Tuesday, May 27. Awards will be given to students in third through fifth grades beginning at 10 a.m. the same day in the gym.
The awards will be for students who made honor roll, had perfect attendance and other achievements. The Jerry McDonald Citizenship Award will be awarded to fifth graders.
The school also will award plaques to businesses that have provided prizes for students during the year for various achievements.
Olsen will hold a pre-k graduation ceremony at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday, May 29.
At Brundrett Middle School, the Jerry McDonald Citizenship Award luncheon will be 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Wednesday, May 21, at the Sandcastle Condominiums conference center.
A ceremony will be held at the BMS cafeteria to award UIL awards and other recognitions to students on Tuesday, May 27. Principal Bob Byrd said a time for the ceremony will be announced soon.
