Port Aransas birding teams place in Classic

Port Aransas teams were among winners in the Great Texas Birding Classic.
Awards were presented in Beaumont on Sunday, May 4.
The Port Aransas Spoonbills, sponsored by the Port Aransas Chamber of Commerce-Tourist Bureau, took third place in the Big Sit! Tournament.
The Port Aransas entry in the Roughwings division for youth teams took fourth place.
Spoonbills members are Mikael Behrens of Austin, John Holt, Scott Holt, Georgia Neblett, Bobby Sherwood and Ann Bracher Vaughan.
Roughwing members, led by Joan Holt, are Kelsey Abel, Lily Cartwright (formerly of Port Aransas, now of San Antonio) and Kelsey Beasley of Corpus Christi. They identified 151 species and birded from 6:15 a.m. beginning at Twin Oaks ranch in Dinero until 9 p.m. ending in Port Aransas.
