Get local gardening tips at library

Kathy Caldwell is library director at the Bill Ellis Memorial Library in Port Aransas.
Throughout the year, and especially in the spring, we have visitors and locals come into the library inquiring about the different plants growing in the area. One of the best identification guides we have in the library collection is a beautiful, two-volume photographic album created by the Port Aransas Garden Club. These are appendices to their publication "Gardening in Port Aransas". Volume 1 features trees, shrubs, grasses, and ground cover. Volume 2 features annuals, perennials and vines. These are also excellent resources to use as a planting guide, as all plants listed are adapted to our seaside environment. All the photographs are in color and bear the common and botanical name of the subject.

The book, "Gardening in Port Aransas," covers soil composition, temperature, wind and windbreaks, lawns, specialty plantings, vegetable gardening and gardening in pots. A must read for all local gardeners!
