Offshore anglers bring in tuna, ling, shark, snapper

Blackfin tuna, ling, vermilion snapper and shark were the dominant species caught offshore this week. The bays are still yielding speckled trout and redfish.

Though the weather was not especially fishing friendly this week, offshore and bay guides who did fish had good results.

Deep Sea Headquarters 12-hour trips have brought in vermilion snapper and kingfish off the rocks. Redfish and speckled trout are still in the bays, according to Dan Hurd.

Offshore Adventures reported catches of vermilion snapper, triggerfish, shark and ling. Bay guides reported limits of redfish and speckled trout, sheepshead and gafftop, according to Peggy Sexton.

Redfish, gafftop and sheepshead are being caught off the south jetty, according to Sharon Keehlisen out of

Woody's Sports Center. Offshore anglers brought in lots of ling, vermilion snapper and shark.

Bill Fintel of Barnacle Bill's Pier House, on Horace Caldwell Pier, reported catches of whiting, limits of sheepshead, small shark, gafftop, redfish and big speckled trout.

John McNatt of Fisherman's Wharf reports vermilion snapper, African pompano, amberjack, a few kingfish, and some Atlantic sharpnose shark being caught offshore. Bay guides are still bringing in redfish, speckled trout and black drum.

According to Sandy Martin at Dolphin Dock, the 40-hour trip brought in vermilion snapper, blackfin tuna, lots of big shark, ling, amberjack, barracuda, pompano and jackfish were caught. The bays have yielded lots of speckled trout and redfish.
