'Book Club' is next 'read' for book club The library Book Club has announced its selection for the May discussion group, which will meet on Tuesday, May 13, at 6:30 p.m. They will discuss "The Jane Austen Book Club," by Karen Joy Fowler. The public is invited to join the group at the Ellis Memorial Library meeting room, 700 West Avenue A, Port Aransas. Library director Kathy Caldwell provides a synopsis of the book: "In California's Central Valley, five women and one man join to discuss Jane Austen's novels. Over the six months they meet, marriages are tested, affairs begin, unsuitable arrangements become suitable and love happens. "Dedicated Austen readers will delight in unearthing the echoes of Austen that run through this novel, but many readers will simply enjoy the vision and voice that, despite two centuries of separation, unite two great writers of sublime social comedy." |
