Marlins make playoffs

      The Port Aransas High School Marlins baseball team has made the playoffs for the first time in the program's history. The Marlins clinched a play-off spot with an 11-10 squeaker of a victory over the Falls City Beavers on April 18 and a 12-1 stomping of Runge the next day.

Lady Marlins grab victory to end season

      The Port Aransas High School Lady Marlins softball team finished a difficult season with a monster victory. The girls stomped Pettus High School's squad, 10-0, in a home game on Friday, April 18. "The girls were determined to win, and win big," said Karen Hall, coach of the Lady Marlins.

South Jetty wins awards at STPA
      The South Jetty won awards for writing, photography, sports pages and special sections in the South Texas Press Association's Better Newspaper Contest for work published during 2007. Awards were presented during STPA's 81st annual convention held in Corpus Christi April 17-19.

Free lap-swimming offer ends Sunday
      This is the last week that lap swimming will be offered at no cost to the public at the Port Aransas Community Pool, 700 Clark Parkway. The free swim, sponsored by Port Aransas Parks and Recreation Department, runs through April as part of the Governor's Texas Round-up Fitness Challenge.
