Council to look at impact fees

      SOUTH JETTY City council members will take what will presumably be their final look at a proposal to start roadway impact fees in Port Aransas tonight, Thursday, April 17. The proposal is one that has drawn fire in its final stages from at least one developer.

Lessons in sand
      Young folks do some sand sculpting at Lesson Mountain on the beach in Port Aransas on Saturday, April 12. Sandscuplting lessons were being offered at Lesson Mountain, an event held just in advance of SandFest, the Texas Sand Sculpture Contest and Festival, to be held Friday to Sunday, April 18-20.

Southern sparks flying in PACT's 'Breath of Dusty Air'
      The Port Aransas Community Theater (PACT) production, "A Breath of Dusty Air," opened Thursday, April 10, at the PACT, 2327 State Hwy. 361. Performances will continue through the rest of the month. Performances will be at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday through Saturday, April 17-19, and April 24 and 26.

Guided beachwalk is free and open to public
      Residents and visitors are invited to learn about what washes ashore on the beaches of Mustang Island. A guided beach walk, sponsored by the Port Aransas Parks and Recreation Department, will spotlight the tidal offering on Friday, April 25.

      Heather Harrison and Patrick Sullivan, both of Converse, were married at 5 p.m. Saturday, April 12, at the Tarpon Inn in Port Aransas. The bride is the daughter of Gene and Lisa Albright of Portland, and the groom's parents are David and Amy Sullivan of Port Aransas.

      Ken and Marcie Gilley were married in Weatherford on April 11, 1958. They celebrated their 50th anniversary in San Antonio with their son, Matt, his wife Heather, and their children Kenneth and Matthew. The couple has lived in Port Aransas since 1993.

      The Island Worship Center will host a presentation by Nick Della Valle on Sunday, April 27, at 10 a.m. Della Valle has walked 3,300 miles across the U.S. twice as a missionary. He will talk about Zacchaeus, the diminutive tax collector from the Gospel of Luke.

      Redfish Bay Chapter, Coastal Conservation Association (CCA) Texas, will hold its annual banquet on Saturday, April 19, at the Port Aransas Civic Center starting at 6 p.m. Tickets, which include the meal and a CCA membership, are $60 for an individual or $95 for a couple.

      A Port Aransas man was in the Nueces County Jail on Tuesday, April 15, under $15,000 bond on a charge of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon. The man, Matthew Honeycutt, 23, is accused of stabbing Joshua Hargett, 25, of Port Aransas, in the hand on Thursday, April 10.
