2008-09 school calendar set

The 2008-2009 school calendar won't look much different from that of the current school year at the Port Aransas Independent School District.
Meeting on Thursday, March 13, the PAISD Board of Trustees voted 6-0 to approve the calendar for the 2008-09 school year. Trustee Ken Dunton was absent.
In 2008-09, students will be in class two fewer days than in the 2007-08 year. Teachers will be working those two days in the upcoming school year for training, said Billy Wiggins, superintendent of PAISD.
While students are getting 180 days of instruction this year, they'll get 178 next year. Teachers got seven days of training last year. They'll get nine next year.
This fall, school will start on Aug. 25. Last year, it started Aug. 27.
While the 2007-08 school year ends May 30, the next school year will end on May 29, 2009.
Student holidays during the 2008- 09 school year:
Labor Day, Sept. 1. Thanksgiving, Nov. 26-28. Christmas, Dec. 20 to Jan. 4. Spring Break, March 16-20.
