Thwarted theft ends with assault charge
A man is charged with aggravated assault after being accused of trying to take another man's backpack on the beach early on Tuesday, March 18.
Police say Christopher Kornegay, 18, whose hometown wasn't available, demanded another Spring Breaker's backpack just after midnight near Pole 10. When the intended victim refused to hand it over, Kornegay hit the man with a bottle, police say.
The victim is a minor and his name was not available; another man was charged with public intoxication in a related arrest.
Kornegay is charged with aggravated assault, a first-degree felony under Texas law. On conviction, a first-degree felony is punishable by up to 99 years in prison or a $10,000 fine or both.
