Bustin' loose
Out of classrooms and offices, it's time to head for the beach
Good weather brought an estimated 60,000 to 75,000 revelers to the beach in Port Aransas March 14-16, the first major weekend of Spring Break 2008, according to law enforcement. Police made 148 arrests, all for minor offenses, in Port Aransas during that period. The only reported incident with more than minor injuries was a vehicle-pedestrian accident on the beach, just south of Access Road 1-A, in which the pedestrian suffered a broken leg, police said. For most visitors, however, Spring Break was a good time.
Clockwise from upper right: Several Spring Breakers pop a wheely in a golf cart late Saturday afternoon; three girls toast Spring Break from atop a pickup truck; looking south from near Avenue G, the beach teems with sun worshippers; Spring Breakers shout their approval of a passing monster truck's bulk; R.J. Gonzales, 12, of San Marcos, enjoys a burial in mud at the hands of two sisters and a cousin; Port Aransas Police Lt. Darryl Johnson, left, and reserve officer Don Murphy survey Spring Break crowds from a beachfront condominium rooftop; a guitarist rides in a truck cruising the beach; and from left, spring breakers Misty Ledwig, 19, Meagan Kahanek, 19, and Tabatha Gibson, 18, all of El Campo, show off their strings of beads while partying at the beach.
